3, 2, 1 … Kick-off in Renningen! 🚍
We’ve officially started the MELABUS research project together with German Aerospace Center (DLR), Rybak + Hofmann rhv-Technik, DLR Institut für Fahrzeugkonzepte and University of Stuttgart – right at our Renningen site, the heart of our Eberspächer Business Unit Bus & Coach.
Our shared goal: Rethinking thermal management in electric buses. The focus is on a new system architecture for heat and cold management, which will reduce energy consumption by more than 20 percent in the future.
Eberspächer is contributing its expertise by developing the Hydro Control System, which centrally manages all thermal processes in the vehicle. In addition, we’re integrating a latent heat storage unit developed by our partners – designed to capture energy and release it on demand, without drawing power from the battery. The storage unit, based on metallic phase change material, combines ecological and economic benefits.
A key focus is long-term reliability: We’re developing protective coatings that can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from 20 to 700 °C – ensuring robust performance over the entire service life.
